A healthy diet is the best way to prevent illnesses. It can also keep hair loss at bay. A diet
rich in vegetables, fruits, and dairy strengthens the hair root, and decreases the chance that
hair will fall out. Some of these foods work by increasing circulation to the scalp. Others provide
the nutrients that hair needs, including the building blocks of hair itself.
Some examples of foods that are great for the prevention of hair loss:
Rice, beans and lentils: They are rich in proteins that form collagen and
keratin, of which hair is made up of. Having adequate amounts of these building blocks will ensure
that hair is strong and completes its cycle of growth successfully without falling out
prematurely
Soybeans: Improve circulation to the scalp, reducing the risk of hair
loss.
Cucumber and carrots: When consumed daily, they strengthen the hair.
Rosemary: The application of rosemary to the scalp improves circulation,
preventing hair loss.
Seafood: Seafood is rich in magnesium, essential for the formation of
proteins that strengthen the hair strands. Salmon is a good example. It prevents hair loss because
it is rich in protein and omega 3 fatty acids.
Milk and dairy products: Rich in calcium, they prevent hair from getting
brittle and opaque.
Foods rich in Vitamin A: Beef liver, egg yolk, and
dairy.
Foods rich in Vitamin B: Cereals, lean meats, and nuts.
Foods rich in zinc: Oysters, liver, and wheat germ.
Foods rich in beta-carotene: Carrots, arugula and watercress.
Protein-rich foods: Fish, chicken, cheese, beans, soy milk, and tofu.
Iron-rich foods: Red meat, egg yolk, raisins, cherries, and kale.
A diet rich in protein, iron, omega-3, zinc, and vitamin A will keep your hair looking and
feeling healthy. Alternatively, the lack of these nutrients may affect the strength and health of
your hair, and may lead to hair loss.
